Two thumbs up for dumping Rune of Power but I want my water elemental back, without it being a DPS loss. (Oh great, just dropped my Rune of Power now let me Shimmer on out of these mechanics.) Most of us didn't want to be turrets either, yet we took that accursed Rune of Power as pretty much an unfortunately necessary choice to at least be somewhat closer to mediocre DPS ranking rather than the bottom of the barrel.
We took Lonely Winter because not doing so largely harmed our PvE performance. Ion's claim that frost mages wanted to be "pure ranged casters" was demonstrated by their talent choices was a gross misreading of the situation. Ray of frost shouldn't exist Comment by polksc33 on T05:13:51-05:00 Ice Cold is an incredibly strong defensive replacement for Ice Block that greatly increases a Frost Mage's ability to effectively deal damage while still surviving dangerous bursts of damage and will see widespread usage throughout endgame content.Thanks to Coldest Snap, Frost's burst AoE and small-scale AoE are significantly stronger and more engaging.The specialization is much less punishing to play because mistakes do not result in losing 100% Icy Veins uptime anymore.Frost Mages now have a more bursty damage profile around Icy Veins that will fit better in many encounters.Active talents such as Glacial Spike, Ray of Frost, and Comet Storm are no longer weak and will see a lot of use.A few highlights of the implications of the rework include: Finally, the class tree changes provide significantly improved defensive power and utility. A substantial rework of Frost brings new talents as well as the removal of the 100% Icy Veins uptime requirement resulting in a much less punishing playstyle and additional interactions involving Mastery: Icicles.įrost Mages received a major rework in 10.1.5.
